We have certainly created a buzz in Brookings over the past month. The creation of “The Hole” has prompted people
to inquire as to our plans for this new feature on the landscape. The recent heavy rains have caused us to question whether
we were getting a new pool or a Community Life Center. Even with all the rain, our contractor has made some very good
progress with the building project over these past couple weeks.
In case you have not driven past our church on 6 Street recently, you will now start to see the beginning of a building.
What started as a very large, water-logged hole is now emerging from the earth in the form of a concrete foundation for a new
building. Like a farmer, we have been working on planting a seed in recent years and now that seed is springing forth as the
Community Life Center. The presence of this building will enable our ministries to continue to grow and flourish in Brookings
and beyond.
The new building will continue to evolve quickly over the next few weeks and we will all be watching with great
interest. One area in particular that you need to prepare for will be when work begins on the north narthex extension. During
the next few weeks, construction work will begin on the narthex extension. This will mean that the north entrances into both
the education building and the offices will be affected. The education unit north door will be closed for an undetermined period
of time and because of this a temporary exit will be created on the west side of the education unit. The north door to the church
offices & elevator will also be closed except on Monday evening when the door and elevator will be accessible for the Harvest
Table. We will not have use of the elevator on any other days of the week during construction (including Sunday), so please
plan to use the south doors of the church and narthex for access to all areas. Since the elevator will not be accessible, please
plan to use the lift in the narthex (if needed) to access the sanctuary.
This is an exciting time and we will need everyone’s cooperation to make sure this building project is completed with
the upmost safety to everyone. Please respect the security of the construction site and allow the workers to do their jobs.
Additional updates will be provided as progress is made on the building project.
Thank You,
Tom Becker, Building Committee Chair
